Last March of the Ents Call Forth the Tempest Gwenom, Remorseless

We have been exploring the boundary between Power Level: Friendly and Power Level: Colossal. As part of this effort, we re-examined the common traits of problematic cards within the existing Power Level: Friendly. We concluded that issues arise when a single card possesses the ability to directly access multiple cards from the library and either cast them or put them onto the battlefield.

Therefore, I decided that Last March of the Ents, which had been available for friendly play as a replacement for Majestic Genesis added to the Colossal List in April, and “Call Forth the Tempest,” which combines two echoes with a one-sided board sweap, should be added to the Colossal List.

Additionally, Gwenom, Remorseless, introduced in Marvel Spider-Man, carries a similar risk and will also be added to the Colossal List. On the other hand, while Bolas’s Citadel possesses nearly identical abilities to Gwenom, Remorseless it will be monitored for now. This decision considers its inability to be placed in the command zone, its one-mana higher cost, and the possibility that removal might be cast in time during the chain.

Gonti’s Aether Heart

For some time now, cards that grant extra turns have been considered inappropriate for the Power Level: Friendly. Among the few cards permitted to grant additional turns in the Power Level: Friendly, Gonti’s Aether Heart was one that remained within the realm of practical inclusion.

At this time, it is not a card significantly impacting the environment. However, considering our past banned and restriction policies, we will add it to the Colossal List rather than ban it outright.

Other low cost cards that grant additional turns include Ugin’s Nexus and Temporal Trespass are realistic options. However, considering that Ugin’s Nexus is expected to be used defensively to prevent extra turns and requires some card to put into the graveyard, and that Temporal Trespass takes too long to prepare, we will maintain the status quo.

Power Level: Friendly’s Current Assessment

The committee is currently investigating player reactions to Rousing Refrain.

While mana acceleration that temporarily increases multiple mana pools tends to receive negative feedback as a potential game-ending catalyst, the Committee recognizes it as a somewhat indispensable card for players on the back foot to bridge the gap with their opponents.

Therefore, we will not immediately add it to the Colossal List. However, regarding the newly added Firebending via Avatar, while it has the strict limitation of being usable only during the Combat Phase, we are wary of its performance potentially exceeding the amount of mana previously gained through temporary mana acceleration.
