Palinchron
This card has been used as an infinite mana combo part of blue decks for a long time.
Compared to other infinite mana combo cards, it is easy to achieve because of its bounce effect, it is powerful even when cast as a sequel without using infinite mana combo, and its combat ability in the late game with minimal specs is always appreciated. It has always been present long before the establishment of the Colossal List.
In other words, it is the face of Power Level: Colossal, but as of today, the format has decided to distance itself from this card.
Dracogenesis
We saw the interaction between this card and Tiamat as problematic. When we first thought about some decks in the “Dragon” family, we thought it was just Rooftop Storm which is easy to play with temporary mana acceleration such as Mana Geyser, but after discovering some OTK piles in Tiamat, we realized that we were wrong.
To give an example, only three cards, Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm, Twinflame Tyrant, Red Dragon can deal 32 points of damage to each opponent, and the remaining two cards can be chosen from Dragonlord Dromoka, Bladewing the Risen and other obstructions or back up combos. Naturally, this combo can be countered with counters to Dracogenesis, enchantment removal in the Tiamat stack, or the previously placed Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, but it is resistant to creature removal, which is likely the most commonly employed. In addition, Tiamat is a five-color leader, which means that it can contain elements of many different decks (during the testing phase we also designed a so-called “Omniscience Reanimator” deck). We are very interested in the versatility of Tiamat, and we believe that in Huge Leaders, it could fill the existing environment.
In this case, we discussed whether it is Tiamat or Dracogenesis that should not be allowed, but the mainstream Tiamat is Dragon Midrange with Jegantha, the Wellspring as a partner, while Dracogenesis is the aforementioned Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm or Niv-Mizzet Reborn, which can be used in Tiamat and similar combos are possible. While it seems appropriate to ban from this format only “Tiamat,” the only definite one-card combo, it was a more difficult choice to leave this card, which is slightly resistant even to “Commandeer".
The study of Dracogenesis is given over to the Commander format and is banned in Huge Leaders.
Gaea’s Cradle
It is the best land in green decks, producing huge amounts of mana from a single land.
Within the past year, the token tactics of Huge Leaders have undergone a remarkable development. In particular, the Dazzling Theater brought by Duskmourn’s fearsome Elder Demon can be deployed to reshape the early game of Huge Leaders. It has long been a staple of all creature-based decks, sought out by land search cards for its mana acceleration in combination with prototype creatures and cards like Khalni Garden, and its ability to generate huge amounts of mana from the large number of Zombie tokens generated by Field of the Dead. It has been the foundation of all creature-based decks.
By adding this card to the Colossal list, we hope to slow down token-based decks a bit in the Power Level: Friendly. There are other cards that have a similar role, such as the aforementioned Dazzling Theater and Three Tree City. We will not deny token aggro in Huge Leaders.
Creative Technique
From a mere 5 mana sorcery, this red spell has changed the course of every game. Every time a new card is made available in Huge Leaders, a combo has been thought of that drastically reduces the number of non-land cards in the deck.
At this time, no combination has been found that can win without any interference from the card in the manner described above. On the other hand, the tension that simply playing this card creates in the game is problematic in terms of whether it is appropriate in Power Level: Friendly.
We consider this card to be acceptable in Power Level: Colossal, and therefore, it is only added to the Colossal list.
Majestic Genesis
This is a sorcery that deploys multiple permanents from the top of the library, which is common in green. There are variants such as the creature-only Last March of the Ents and Selvala’s Stampede, which has already been added to the Colossal List, and we believe that Apex Devastator is also in this category in the broadest sense, although in a different flavor.
We have decided to reduce the Concentration of such cards in this announcement. Especially considering the fact that Huge Leaders, unlike the original Commander format, has a 50-card deck, we believe that the concentration of Huge Leaders is higher than that of the original, and we believe that the ban will have an effect.
In Power Level: Colossal, we decided not to ban it since it has been our policy since its establishment to “very powerful cards flying around, sometimes resulting in a stalemate and emptiness”.
